At the beginning of this year, PIA officially became a member of the NIDV, the Dutch Industries for Defence and Security. It’s no secret that in the coming years, major efforts will be required to strengthen the armed forces, and PIA Service is proud to contribute its part. We spoke with John de Krijger, Managing Director of PIA Service BV.
Why did you become a member of the NIDV?
John: PIA Service has a long track record as a system integrator in the industry. We automate machines and production processes and have extensive expertise in hardware, software, and IT systems, which enables us to control complex processes. We serve a large number of clients, often international, and have a wealth of experience in the manufacturing industry. We would like to use this knowledge and expertise to strengthen the defence industry within the Netherlands.
Where do you see the greatest opportunities?
John: I see the biggest opportunities in companies that act as suppliers to the defence sector, such as machine builders. These companies design, build, and deliver machines for the production of parts or systems used by defence. These so-called “TIER_2” companies will need to scale up to meet the rapidly increasing demand of the defence industry. We have an extensive track record, and I see a major opportunity for PIA Service to bring this expertise into the defence domain as well. Our highly automated and digitised methods for designing hardware and software for control systems allow us to scale up capacity quickly, which is a strong advantage given the challenges ahead.
What will happen next in concrete terms?
John: We have already made contact with a number of other NIDV companies and intend to explore further collaboration with them. Our profile enables us to provide broad support, and we have expertise in the latest technologies in process automation and cybersecurity. We are ready and look forward to the next steps.
