A few months ago, we spoke with ethical hacker Martijn and Yannick, both Certified NIS2 Directive Lead Implementers at PIA Service BV, about cyber security in general and the impact of NIS2 in particular. How is the industry progressing? We ask John de Krijger, Director at PIA Service.<\/p>\n
John: The new NIS2 directive will come into effect in the third quarter of this year. From that moment, the new standard will apply to nearly all our clients. Given the scope of the directive, I had expected the Dutch industry to be actively engaged right now. However, the activities remain limited to a few clients who are taking steps, where we can help guide the process with our expertise.<\/p>\n
John: The NIS2 is outlined in an extensive document and is primarily aimed at making companies more resilient to the risks of a cyber-attack. We initially assist clients in performing a risk analysis. This starts with mapping the corporate network: how systems are interconnected and where data is stored. This forms the foundation for examining authorizations, the protection of critical data, access policies for individuals, and data exchange processes. Many of our clients already have a solid foundation in place, which means the subsequent steps can be taken relatively quickly.<\/p>\n
John: We often see that, due to the operational focus of many companies, cyber security and NIS2 do not receive the attention they deserve. As a result, companies\u2019 risk being insufficiently prepared for cyber-attacks, which unfortunately are becoming increasingly common. The NIS2 requires a set of measures aimed at reducing risks and helping companies develop an incident response plan. I would advise companies to take this seriously or to collaborate with a partner who is able to advise. At PIA Service, we are ready to assist clients through this process.<\/p>\n
